This is quite amazing. The way in which the art is created, both disturbingly and powerfully, from the discarded remnants of migrants' clothing, reminds me of the chilling effect of an exhibit at the Holocaust museum in Washington DC of the potent leathery smell of a pile of shoes taken from victims. Something both ordinary, shoes made of leather, and extraordinarily, WHOSE shoes they were, the feet they used to cover, how they had taken, how they were such a tiny symbol of a much greater suffering.
Also, there is a picture at the bottom of the button from the madres webpage link showing a group of Latinos and non-Latinos, a smiling "family" bound by a shared purpose and desire to tell a story, people with different colored skin and hair. It reminds me of how we are building a multi-colored and multilingual family at La Vela.
